Restaurant Quest: Lava Mountain Coffee in Orion Township

Orion Township, MI – I’ve been going to Lava Mountain Coffee for a couple years now, but only recently have they added sandwiches to their menu, meaning it’s a perfect time to do a Restaurant Quest feature!
The coffee shop, whose motto is “where love flows”, has a new owner named Bill, who enjoyed coming to the shop to sip on coffee and enjoy the wireless and the company of fellow customers prior to purchasing the business. He’s excited at the opportunity to be at the helm now, and is making the change he’s always wanted to see – more food options!
So, to confess, I don’t drink coffee (sorry again to my friend Frank lol). So can’t tell you how that is. But it does smell great.
I do, however, like smoothies. And Bill and his crew have added a couple options, including the mixed berry smoothie made with Greek yogurt. Mmmm… There are also specialty teas available. Coffee is available by the cup, and there are bags of it as well. Among the current selections are Peaberry from Tanzania, Chiapas from Mexico, and Light Roast from Columbia.
The pastry selection has expanded as well, with an ever changing variety of muffins, danishes, and other baked goods to enjoy.
But the most exciting change is the addition of sandwiches to the menu. I picked the roast beef, served on thick French bread with sliced cheddar, lettuce, and horseradish. This was a perfectly filling meal, with the same coffeehouse feel.
New selections are still a work in progress, so you’ll just have to stop in and see if you are curious. Whatever ends up working, we wish Bill and Lava Mountain the best!
