(Penny Rapp, HEF, April 5, 2023)
Holly, MI – We a group of dedicated parents and residents of Holly Area School District (HAS) that believes the purpose of public education is to provide opportunities for all students to develop the attributes needed to be critical, creative thinkers, life-long learners, and responsible citizens in a global community. The Holly Education foundation, or H.E.F., is a 50l(c)3 charitable foundation that raises money and distributes it throughout the HAS district supporting teachers, students, and other staff members. President, Joseph Mishler, VP, Bill Walters, Treasurer, Penny Raupp, Secretary, Kaye Thorsby , and trustees Lori Kahn, Dave Nuss, and Margaret Crockett.
We raise money through memorial gifts, insurance policies, estate planning , cash contributions, payroll deductions and through our annual fundraisers. Our eighth annual golf outing will be held May 6, 2023 at Fenton Farms. This is our major fundraiser, where lots of fun is had! Our annual Holiday cash raffle is held each December at a Holly High School basketball game. First prize is $ 500, second prize is $ 250, and third prize is $ 250.00 Our fundraisers get a lot of participation from local businesses, teachers, staff, and great people that want to contribute to our cause.
We have a mini-grant process each year that teachers, and staff of HAS can apply for. As a board, we look over each application in detail and the applicant must meet certain criteria to be awarded. A project description must be given, along with how that project enhances education in their classroom/school and the overall impact it will have on students.
We also like to see the project impact as many students or people as possible. Applicant must do a project outline, and overall budget breakdown. Some of the grants awarded this year are: sign language learning, student seating to enhance, learning about Native Americans, physical education materials, soft start morning tubs, math and recess games, hands on alphabet activities, Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum tickets, gross motor and brain development tools, equipment to help with balance, auditory and vision training, flexible seating, books, historical maps, and straw rockets.
In the past we have also awarded monies to help build the Holly High School biking/walking trail, sustainable water fountains, and other great needs!
