UPDATED: Officer Stabbed After Suspect Shot During Arrest Attempt in Ferndale

UPDATE: Ferndale Police have sent a correction stating The deputy sustained an injury from the knife after the shots were fired.
Ferndale, MI – On April 4, 2023, at approximately 9:33 a.m., Ferndale Police officers responded to a residential home at 781 E. Webster, for an officer-involved shooting involving the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Wayne County Deputies were attempting to arrest a 25-year-old Ferndale man. Deputies fired shots, striking the suspect. The suspect, armed with a knife, stabbed one deputy in the leg.
Deputies immediately rendered life-saving measures and the suspect was transported to a local hospital. One deputy sustained a stab wound to the leg and is currently in stable condition.
A second deputy sustained an injury to the hand and is being treated at the hospital.
The suspect’s condition is critical. He has not been identified. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
