SB Woodward Avenue to Close at South Blvd. for Two Months for Intersection Improvements

PONTIAC, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close southbound Woodward Avenue south of the Pontiac Loop, from Rapid Street to South Boulevard for approximately two months for intersection improvements at the I-75 Business Loop (BL) (Woodward Avenue) and South Boulevard intersection in Pontiac.
MDOT is investing $3.1 million to complete intersection safety improvements on I-75 BL (Woodward Avenue) at South Boulevard. The project will reconstruct southbound I-75 BL and install indirect left turns.

Traffic restrictions:
Southbound I-75 BL will be completely closed south of Rapid Street, at the railroad crossing south of the Woodward Loop. Northbound I-75 BL will have two lanes open. Southbound traffic will be detoured on southbound I-75 BL to westbound M-59, then on southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) to eastbound US-24 Business Route (Square Lake Road), then to southbound Woodward Avenue. Delays are expected during the morning and afternoon drive times.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 38 jobs.
Safety benefit:
This project will improve safety by changing the existing direct left turn movements to indirect left turns, improving pedestrian crossings, and installing new traffic signals.
