Woodward Construction Between 8 Mile and I-696 Begins March 20

(Downtown Ferndale, March 14, 2023)

Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, MI – Phase 2 of the Woodard Avenue road construction and city enhancement project is expected to resume as soon as March 20. Expect single lane closures during the day, and nightly double or triple lane closures as work progresses.

As additional phase 2 construction details continue to develop, please expect Woodward Moves email and text message updates. Here’s how to receive email and text alerts about this project.

As a reminder, the majority of work will take place from Spring – Fall of this year. While there is a chance this timeline changes, we’ll work closely with our construction partner, MDOT, to stay on track  and provide you with updates as we get them.

With the more comprehensive second half of this project beginning soon, we’re one step closer towards a more safe, inclusive, and prosperous Woodward Avenue!

What is Woodward Moves?

Woodward Moves is a city enhancement project designed to improve Ferndale’s safety, promote inclusivity, and foster prosperity to welcome people to enjoy and explore the Woodward Corridor for years to come.

What type of work is happening?

Project work on Woodward will include:

  • Resurfacing of Woodward from 8 Mile to Oakridge Street
  • The reduction of a travel lane on each side of Woodward in Ferndale
  • Improved visibility at intersections
  • Targeted improvements to curbs
  • Implementation of accessible curb ramps
  • Shortening of pedestrian crossings
  • Protected bike lanes
  • Bus islands
  • Drainage improvements
