Ferndale, MI – The Ferndale Elks met recently with leaders from the Southeast Oakland Community Coalition to celebrate a $6,000 Elks National Foundation grant for the coalition to help with substance abuse prevention efforts at Ferndale Schools.  The district serves students in Ferndale, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, and Royal Oak Township.
“Our lodge is very grateful for the opportunity to get involved in this regional effort,” said Elks spokesperson Oscar Renautt.  “During the check presentation ceremony we acknowledged the leaders of our community – Oakland County Commissioner Charlie Cavell, Pleasant Ridge Mayor Bret Scott, Ferndale City Council person Raylon Leaks-May, and many others in attendance.
“The Chair of Southeast Oakland Coalition, Mr. Ivory and the Executive Director, Ms. Carol Jackson represented the Coalition and received the check.
“We thank our PER Shane Lowell-Queentry, the chair of the Youth Activities Committee for his unwavering efforts to better our community, the chair of the Drug Awareness Committee, Kendra Komp, for her efforts to expand this program at our lodge, and the ENF Chair Chuck Pankey-Fanning for obtaining the Grant money to support these wonderful programs.
“We are looking forward to continue working with Southeast Oakland Coalition and Ferndale High School in the future. Historically, our lodge was instrumental in many youth betterment programs in the past when Jerry Ollie was leading this effort. We are very proud to continue this partnership and the tradition!”
