Feb 17 – Royal Oak Historical Museum Talk by LaKeesha Morrison
Royal Oak, MI – We invite you to join us on February 17th at 7:00 PM at the Royal Oak Historical Museum as we explore the rich history of Royal Oak through the lens of the Hamer-Finch-Wilkins family. This African American family has left a lasting legacy in the community, and we’re honored to bring their story to life.
Don Drife, a researcher at the museum, and LaKeesha Morrison, a Hamer descendant, will share their research findings, methods, and some family stories that will provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Hamer-Finch-Wilkins family. From freedom seekers to Civil War veterans, this family has a rich and diverse history that you won’t want to miss.
Learn about the Hamers, who settled in Royal Oak before the Civil War as freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad, and their descendants, the Finch and Wilkins families, who continued to live in Royal Oak or maintain strong ties to the area. This event is a unique opportunity to learn about local history and connect with the community.
We hope you can join us on February 17th to celebrate this family and learn more about the heritage of Royal Oak.
