BOSS Interview: Jim Shaffer of Jim Shaffer and Associates

Ferndale, Royal Oak, MI – There are lots of smiles in the Real Estate business, but few are as recognized along the Woodward Corridor as Jim Shaffer – whose face graces bus stop benches, billboards, buildings, booths at events, and even our very own Oakland County Times Event Page.

Shaffer recently did a Zoom interview with the OC Times for our Business and Organizational Super Stars (BOSS) Series, talking about his work and sharing advice for other would-be entrepreneurs.

What an entrepreneur needs, Shaffer said, is “a bit of tenacity and a whole lot of research.

“I am a proponent of finding a model and duplicating that model,” Shaffer said.  “In the beginning you have to find somebody who’s doing what you aspire to do and do as much research as on them as you possibly can… and then recreate that model for yourself… And then in the end you get to insert your creativity, your style, the things that are going to make it your own. But the first thing you have to do is make is sustainable… I see so many folks try to do it in reverse.”

Real Estate has a pretty simple foundation.  People sell properties.  People buy properties. Real Estate agents connect those people and help them through the process.

But it’s the creativity and personality that Shaffer brings to his business, along with that tenacity, that has made it grow.

After diving in to his own business in 2009, he’s grown his team to a staff of about 70, including agents, managers, marketing pros, and more. The primary office is in Downtown Royal Oak, and they’ve recently opened a Ferndale location, right at 9 Mile and Woodward Avenue.  They serve all of Metro Detroit and beyond.
