Americana Music’s Siren Call At The Bowlero Lanes & Lounge in Royal Oak

(Sam Gurwin, Jan. 28, 2023)

Royal Oak, MI – One of the more hoping Saturday nights at the Retro 50s-style Bowling Alley & Lounge on the outskirts of Hip Royal Oak is busy. This bowling alley with a Concert Venue Lounge is a beacon on this Saturday night, in an area set apart from the bustle of downtown and other nighttime businesses.

The magic of live music calls interested patrons from all around the area- This night Jo Serrapere & The Lafawndas were weaving their classical Americana music web from the concert lounge.

Both Bar Area and Sitting area before the small stage was buzzing with pre-show excitement. The patrons were ready for a musical treat straight from the fiddles and porches of America.

We talked to John Devine before the show- He is the guitarist of the Band. This reporter was trying to figure out what kind of music was playing tonight. “What is Americana- that’s a good question” said John. “It is any kind of music that has a history and is in the United States. It’s homegrown and draws from early sources like blues, traditional country and old time.”

First playing together on New Years Eve in 2019- The cusp of the Covid-19 Pandemic- this band practiced through that period in people’s backyards and on porches- just like the old time players of the past. The crowd seemed to love the concert
