Feb 2 – Four Chaplains to Be Honored at Berkley American Legion
Berkley, MI – The Berkley American Legion Post 374 is proud to announce a special 4 Chaplain’s Service to be held on 2 February 2023, conducted by Chaplin Dennis Basierbe.
The 4 Chaplain’s Service is a special tribute to the bravery and selflessness of the four chaplains who sacrificed their lives during World War II to save their fellow soldiers. On February 3, 1943, the USAT Dorchester, a troop transport ship, was hit by a German submarine and began to sink. As the ship went down, the four chaplains, representing different faiths, gave their own life jackets to soldiers and went down with the ship, inspiring others with their bravery and selflessness.
The Berkley American Legion Post 374 is honored to host this annual service to remember and honor the sacrifice of these four chaplains. The service will begin at 7:00 PM in the lower hall of the post at 2079 Twelve Mile Rd, Berkley, MI 48072 All are welcome to attend.
