Kimberly Urbanowski Appointed Orion Township Treasurer
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 16, 2022)
Orion Township, MI – Kimberly Urbanowski was appointed to the position of Orion Township Trustee for a partial term ending in 2024. With Donni Steele’s election to the State House of Representatives, it left the position open. The board accepted applications. Initially two were submitted, but the other person withdrew their interest, leaving Urbanowski the sole applicant. She was unanimously appointed at the Dec. 5 board meeting.
Urbanowski has served as a Trustee since Nov. 2020. Other experience include being the Executive Director of the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce from March 2016-Jan. 2020, and again stepping in to serve as the Interim Director from June-Nov. 2022. She’s also served as Communications Manager and Financial Coordinator for Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities, and Communications Coordinator for North Oakland Community Coalition. She’s owned her own business and served in the US Navy.
She’s also been involved in projects like the KaBoom! playground build at Camp Agawam and being part of Orion Living Magazine – from opening the proposals from printers and working with the graphics designer on the overall look and feel of the magazine.
“I was honored to be included in those initiatives,” Urbanowski told Oakland County Times. “I have the deepest respect for the people who work for the Township and am excited for the opportunity to work alongside of them every single day.”
In her letter of intent, Urbanowski said “An appointment to the Treasurer position will fulfill a deeply personal goal that has guided the choices I have made personally and professionally over the last two decades of my life. I landed in Lake Orion in the late 1990s and I instantly knew this was where I wanted to raise my family… My name is on the cornerstone of the municipal building, the gravity of which will never escape me. It means that I have found a permanent home, and I am bound by a deep sense of duty to uphold what it means to be a member of this outstanding community.”
She also added that predecessor “Donni Steele has served our Township with immeasurable integrity, intelligence, and grit, and it is my intent to continue that tradition of excellence.” Dec. 19 is Steele’s last board meeting, and members of the public are welcome to attend a reception in her honor at 6pm in Township Hall prior to the 7pm meeting.
Once Urbanowski takes office as Treasurer, there will be a vacancy for a Trustee position and the Board will need to make an appointment. Details of the application process will be forthcoming.
