OC Restaurant QUEST: Our Reviews in Troy So Far…

Troy, MI – Troy is a diverse community with a diverse mix of restaurants to match. As I work on my quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County, I’ve had 20 in the tasty city of Troy – including my favorite fast food restaurant ever (and sponsor of this amazing quest) – White Castle.
The White Castle in Troy is located at 2930 John R Rd, offering a nice selection of side items as well as their classic sliders and fries.
One of my earliest reviews was of Renee’s Pizza, which has recently changed their name to TRU Pizza Co. (Meaning another review may be in order!). This is a unique place because they specialize in gluten-free pizza and pastries, which can be hard for people to find.
Two of my more over-the-top breakfasts were in Troy as well. At Jay Jay’s Bistro at Long Lake and Dequindre had Red Velvet French Toast that was basically rolled cake with cream cheese frosting in the middle cut into slices and fried, then topped with powdered sugar, butter, syrup, and whipped cream.
The Bananas Foster Pancakes at Johnny Cakes Cafe was also a meal of indulgence. This triple stack of homemade pancakes came smothered with candied bacon and pecans among caramelized bananas. This wasn’t even the best part, because I also had the homemade corned beef hash and in all the meals I’ve had, I’ve never had corned beef hash as good as Johnny Cakes. Getting back to lunch and dinner, among the best in Troy is a place called Wow Sushi, where the menu is full of creative and flavorful sushi options, including the Sunday Morning Roll made with salmon and cream cheese coated in tempura batter and fried. At Nee Hee, a vegetarian Indian street food restaurant, I got to try dosa for the first time, as well as the Vegetable Manchurian. And for authentic south of the border tacos, I enjoyed LaBotana at Square Lake and John R.
