OC Restaurant QUEST: Our Reviews in Clawson So Far…

Clawson, MI – Clawson is known as “The Little City with a Big Heart,” and after a few years of doing restaurant reviews, I also know it as a little city with a big appetite. Thirteen restaurants in Clawson have been featured in our Oakland County Times Restaurant Quest / Reporter Food column. This includes classics like Clawson Steakhouse and Old Port Family Restaurant, as well as newer hot spots like Whiskey Taco Foxtrot, Zeoli’s Modern Italian, and Downtown Charlie’s.
The Clawson Steak House was a trip down memory lane. “The Clawson Steak House at 56 S. Rochester Road (at 14 Mile) has been serving guests for over 60 years, in a dining room that seems like it must not ever have changed. Above the cloth-covered seats and sturdy booths are lamps ringed with plastic crystals, while other mid-century modern features add nostalgia to one’s visit,” we reported of a visit that also included Prime Rib and French Onion soup.
Mojave Cantina was also a memorable meal, serving up a delicious Mexican Pizza as well as a tasty fried ice cream. For more eclectic taco options, check out Whiskey Taco Foxtrot, where I had a fajita chicken taco, potato and avocado taco, and chimichurri steak taco. And of course there is whiskey. And for the purposes of my review I enjoyed a take-home shot of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.
And while Zeoli’s Italian seems not to be carrying my favorite appetizer ever any more, I do still want to give them a shout-out for their atmosphere. “The decor was super fun, with a Vespa overlooking the dining area and rich green walls around the booths, and various flags and signs for racing,” is what I wrote back in 2019. I’m definitely looking forward to coming in for an updated review!
