Nov. 12 -Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Adams Park in Birmingham
Birmingham, MI – The community is invited to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the beautiful, newly renovated Adams Park. The park is directly adjacent to Roeper School, located at 1051 Oakland Avenue.
Elected officials, city staff and the community will gather for a brief ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by complimentary hot cider, doughnuts and live music from Uc3 Acoustic Trio. All are encouraged to explore the park and enjoy the new play equipment and other features.
The new park, now open for play, boasts a significant play area, a garden seating plaza, beautiful landscaping improvements with many new trees, an open grassy area for field sports, a basketball court, shot put, discus, and a long jump area. Finishing touches to the park, including the rain garden, are underway. A virtual tour is available at www.bhamgov.org/adamsparktour.
The Adams Park Development Project was made possible by the City of Birmingham Parks & Recreation bond, a $100,000 grant from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission, and generous community donors. Following extensive planning and a public engagement process, Michael J. Dul & Associates, together and in cooperation with city staff, surrounding neighborhood associations, and Roeper School, developed the final park plans and drawings earlier this year. Construction began in the summer and the park was completed this fall.
“We are excited to invite the community to visit Adams Park,” said Carrie Laird, Birmingham Parks and Recreation Manager. “The Adams Park development is a great improvement to Birmingham’s park system. Acquired in 2006, Adams Park is such a gem and we are so pleased with the outcome.”
Through the city’s partnership with Roeper School, the city provides maintenance, lawn care and sidewalk snow removal, and the 1.5-acre property serves as a public park. Roeper School is permitted to use the park during the school year for activities undertaken by the school.
