(Liam Feeney, Oct. 16, 2022)
Holly, MI – Music was playing as people in long dresses and pointed hats danced around Downtown Holly for the annual Witches Night Out event. There were specials and deals in local stores, cackling competitions, and plenty of hot beverages going around. There was also a scarecrow contest for local businesses, with Battle Alley Brewery taking home the most votes.
“It was nice to dress up and get to celebrate Halloween with the town” said one patron all decked out in full Witch costume while taking a break from dancing.
The energy was joyful as everyone celebrated the first of event of the Halloween season with trunk or treat going on later in the month. It was clear that this was an event that everyone wanted to go to. “Honestly I get more excited about this than anything else going on in downtown during the year!” said yet another decked out Witch.
Aside from the dancing and cackling competitions there was also a costume contest for the best dressed witch. All the businesses stayed open late to help serve the crowd and there were lines at many of the stores.
As if to add a little bit extra excitement to the whole event there was even a wedding taking place at the Holly Vault. As the happy couple went to take pictures, the crowds erupted in cheers and the bride herself lit up.
“It was a pleasant surprise to see it go so well with everything going on” said one worker in downtown. All in all once again the community of Holly showed out for their towns events and brought each other together to have a magical time for all.
DDA Director Nick Kempp told Oakland County Times that over 400 people turned out for the event. “How did the event go? The event went great! Many shops were open, we had a great DJ playing music and people danced, shopped, hung out and had fun with the contest. Everyone enjoyed the Witches dance too,” Klempp said. “Everyone that I heard from said they had a great time and the shops had a good time. It was fun to do something different and hang out and have fun. It is always good to take some time and relax with friends and community and just enjoy being there and of course shop Holly! ”
