Oct 3 – Elevate Oak Park – Open House for Parks and Rec Projects
Members of the Oak Park Community,
The future is in our parks!
Join us on Monday, Oct. 3 at 4:30 pm at City Hall to review concept plans for improvements to the parks and recreation amenities in Oak Park. These concept plans have been developed by the SmithGroup, which was hired by the City of Oak Park in January to lead the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update and Comprehensive Asset Study. The decision to hire SmithGroup to take the City’s recreation opportunities to new heights launched the Elevate Oak Park Project.
The parks and spaces focused on throughout this project are:
- Tyler Park
- Best Park
- Key Park
- Dewey Park
- Rothstein Park
- David Shepherd Park
- Future Trail System
Concept plans for each park/space will be on display at the Oct. 3 Open House.
These concept plans are based around an extensive and intentional planning and public input process. Since the Elevate Oak Park Project launched there have been:
- 7 Hybrid Stakeholder Meetings
- 4 Hybrid Community Engagement Meetings
- 4 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Meetings
- 127 Concept Survey Respondents
- 250 Statistically-Valid Survey Respondents
It is through your voices, your ideas and your dreams for Oak Park that the concept plans to be presented on Oct. 3 for the Elevate Oak Park Project were created.
We look forward to sharing these plans with you!
Following the Open House, at 5:30 pm, is a City Council and Planning Commission workshop regarding the concept plans. A City Council meeting is also scheduled for 7 pm that evening.
In the weeks following the Oct. 3 meetings, the concept plans will be finalized and eventually become part of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Before the updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan is adopted there is a 30-day public review period and then a vote by City Council.
Also, we currently have online survey open to better determine the parks and recreation priorities for our community. If you would like to take it please click here.
