(OCSO, Aug. 31, 2022)
Rochester Hills, MI – An 85-year-old Troy woman died Tuesday after she was involved in a three-vehicle car crash in Rochester Hills.
The crash happened approximately 6:16 p.m. at the intersection of Adams and Auburn roads. Mary Josephine Howe was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Adams Road and was attempting to turn onto westbound Auburn Road. As the Impala entered the intersection and began to turn left, her car was struck by a 2015 Jeep Patriot being driven southbound on Adams Road by a 31-year-old Lake Orion woman.
As a result of the initial collision, the Jeep struck a third vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 28-year-old Pontiac woman. The Cruze was stopped at the traffic light on eastbound Auburn Road and waiting to turn onto southbound Adams Road. Howe was taken to the hospital by the Rochester Hills Fire Department where she later died from her injuries.
The Jeep driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. The third driver declined medical treatment at the scene. The drivers were all wearing seat belts. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigations Unit.
