Reporter Food: Burger on a Glazed Donut at DK in Oxford
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 29, 2022)
Oxford, MI – As the name DK Burgers and Donuts suggests, this little shop in Oxford specializes in both. But some may not realize they also have a sandwich that combines the two! The donut burger features a quality beef patty with toppings on either a glazed donut (without the hole), or any of their other sweet donut choices.
A friend and I went to try this unusual combination, and were impressed.
The bacon cheeseburger version included beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and a mayo-based special sauce. The glazed donut bun is a soft sticky mess, with sugary coating mixing with the grease from the burger and the tang from the sauce, giving taste buds a variety of delights and giving good reason to lick one’s fingers. They do come wrapped in wax paper for easier eating.
Those seeking a more traditional lunch can order burgers on regular buns. And as far as donuts there are a variety, including fresh baked apple fritters and donuts topped with chopped nuts, coconut, Fruity Pebbles, and more.
The fries are the kind I like, thin golden strips with varying bites of crispiness. There’s also a variety of chips and canned beverages to choose from. I had grapefruit flavored sparkling water, which was also a treat for me.
DK is also known for their giant donut cakes. I’ve snagged a pick from their Facebook to include. There are several varieties available.
Located at 1090 S Lapeer Rd in Oxford, DK is currently open until 2pm. There is inside seating with a view of the bustle of the busy road outside. Plus there’s a drive-thru. We weren’t able to find a website, but DK Burgers and Donuts does have a Facebook Page. Enjoy!
