Hollywood Ave in Pontiac to Close Permanently
(Racer Trust, Aug. 13, 2022)
Pontiac, MI – RACER Trust today announces the permanent closure to vehicular and pedestrian traffic of Hollywood Avenue between West Kennett Road and West Mansfield Avenue in the City of Pontiac, effective Monday, August 22. Travelers are advised to use Baldwin Avenue or Carlisle Street as an alternative north-south route between West Kennett Road and West Tennyson Avenue.
The City of Pontiac vacated the portion of Hollywood Avenue between West Kennett Road and West Mansfield Avenue in December 1984, transferring ownership to the former General Motors Corp. (“old GM”). Ownership transferred to RACER Trust in 2011 as a result of the “old GM” bankruptcy. RACER consulted with the City of Pontiac and decided to close this section of Hollywood Avenue in the interests of public safety.
Signs alerting travelers to the closure will be temporarily posted along Hollywood Avenue at several locations, at its intersection with West Mansfield Avenue, and along West Kennett Road west and east of its intersection with Hollywood Avenue. Detour signs directing travelers to Tennyson Avenue will be placed along Baldwin Avenue. In addition, temporary barriers with “Road Closed” signage will be placed across Hollywood Avenue at West Kennett Road and West Mansfield Avenue. The temporary signage will be replaced by permanent barriers and fencing. Please see attached diagram for details.
No businesses or residential properties will be affected by the closure.
