Police Seek Info on Bank Fraud Suspect, Reward Offered for Tips

Rochester Hills, MI  – Sheriff’s Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who passed a stolen check for $3,250 at a Rochester Hills bank and further attempted to use a stolen credit card to purchase more than $1,400 in gift cards in Macomb County.

The incidents occurred over a three-day period in July beginning in St. Clair Shores where several women reported their purses stolen from their vehicles on July 23.

On July 25, the suspect visited a drive-up window of the First State Bank located at 1575 S. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills and successfully cashed a stolen check written for $3,250 using the stolen ID and posing as the victim. When the suspect attempted to cash a second check immediately after the first transaction, the teller became suspicious and made efforts to keep the suspect at the window while Deputies were dispatched.

The suspect fled before Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene. At some point after the purses were stolen, the suspect tried to purchase $1,459 worth of gift cards from a Walmart in Roseville, but the purchase was declined. Further purchases were also attempted in Chesterfield Twp.

The suspect was driving a white GMC Terrain with a stolen Michigan license plate, EDR0962, which was reported stolen on July 26. Anyone with information or can identify the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800- SPEAK UP. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest. Tipsters remain anonymous.
