Man Killed in Workplace Altercation at GM’s Orion Assembly Plant

Orion Township, MI- A 48-year-old man was arrested early today in connection with the fatal assault of a male co-worker at the GM Assembly plant in Orion Township.

The suspect, whose hometown was not immediately known, was taken into custody without incident. He is being housed in the Oakland County Jail. Sheriff’s Detectives expect to present the case to prosecutors for possible homicide charges on Friday.

The victim, 49, was a Pontiac resident and worked at the plant for approximately seven months. Detectives did not release the man’s name until positive identification is made. An autopsy is to be performed today.

The men were both employed by a cleaning service contracted by GM. They were not GM employees.

Deputies were dispatched to the plant at 455 Giddings Road in Orion Township at 1:37 a.m. today on the report of an injured person. When they arrived, they found the victim unconscious and bleeding. Deputies performed CPR on the man but could not revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was found standing in a dock area of the plant, not far from where the victim’s body was found. It was not known how long the suspect was employed at the plant. The item used in the slaying was recovered. The incident and possible motive remain under investigation.
