Oxford, MI – Oxford Senior Ava Swiss bought national attention to the tragic mass shooting at Oxford High School last year, and to her beautiful voice, with a performance on America’s Got Talent last night. The show features multiple contestants who perform and are judged.

Swiss sang “Remember” by Lauren Daigle, and received compliments from the judges, including judge Simon Cowell who said “For me, this is one of those auditions that I’ll never forget.”

Swiss told the crowd, “When I sing it, I remember the good. I remember my community, my family — just the love and I remember that it’s all there for me and it’ll help me get where I need to be.”

The Oxford community is especially proud of the young lady, who was in the school when a fellow student opened fire and killed four of her classmates and injured seven people.  Posts on Facebook celebrate in the singer’s success.  Swiss moves on to another round of competition, having received compliments from all judges.

“So proud of you Ava! from one Oxford gal to another, you’re never alone and incredibly strong. Sending all the love and biggest hug!” wrote Adrianne Faith on the video’s You Tube page.

“We Michiganians are strong and Ava made us proud and stronger,” wrote Zana Banci.

Paige Chalou wrote “Being raised in Oxford and having Oxford high school be my alma mater, Ava you bring so much hope and healing to the community, thank you .”
