Royal Oak Residents Encouraged to Request a Free Tree
(City of Royal Oak, July 24, 2022)
Royal Oak, MI – The City of Royal Oak is committed to reforesting Royal Oak’s neighborhoods. They are offering free trees, and planting in the right of way between the side walk and the street, to residents.
“It is critical that we proactively and aggressively plant trees in neighborhoods now to ensure that residents enjoy the shade, beauty, and countless other benefits of trees well into the future. Beautiful tree-lined streets 20 years from now require us to make these substantial investments, and we need YOU to help,” said the city in a recent message to residents. According to their website:
“The vision of the Tree Canopy Expansion Program is to help beautify Royal Oak’s landscape, while enhancing the quality of life and environmental benefits in our community. An objective of the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan is to increase the tree canopy to at least 40 percent.
“To encourage this, the city is offering a free street tree (valued at $322 – installation included) in the fall of 2022 to Royal Oak property owners.
Up to 500 free trees will be available for planting within the public right-of-way. Support for this project is provided by the U.S. Forest Service. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
