Tornado Warning issued in Northern Oakland County Late Monday Night (updated)

Fenton, MI – The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a

* Tornado Warning for… Northwestern Oakland County in southeastern Michigan… Southeastern Genesee County in southeastern Michigan…

* Until midnight EDT.

* At 1133 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Lake Fenton, or near Fenton, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD…Tornado and quarter size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near… Goodrich around 1145 PM EDT. Ortonville around 1150 PM EDT. This includes the following highways… I-75 between mile markers 102 and 109. US-23 between mile markers 82 and 86.

* AFFECTED AREAS: GENESEE, MI … OAKLAND, MI

Instructions:

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

UPDATE  12:00am –  The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning that remains in effect until 1230AM for southern Lapeer and Northern Oakland Counties.  At 1159 pm a severe thunderstorm was located over Oxford, moving east at 45 mph.

Hazard… 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail
