Reporter Food: Lucas Coney Island in Auburn Hills
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 7, 2022)
Auburn Hills, MI – Oakland County is full of family-run diners and coney spots, and one of those is Lucas’ Coney Island in Auburn Hills. Conveniently located at the corner of Updyke and Pontiac Road, Lucas’ is a popular spot for those living and working in the area.
For my visit I had a tasty classic – a Slim Jim with chili cheese fries. The Slim Jim features thick cut grilled ham on a steak bun with melted Swiss cheese, sliced tomato, lettuce, and mayo. I also opted for a slice of banana cream pie for dessert.
The menu is full of great choices for breakfast and lunch. Omelette choices include the Irish Omelette with corned beef hash, mushrooms, and Swiss, as well as the Mexican omelette with ground beef, green pepper, onions, and cheese. There are also biscuits and gravy, Belgian waffles, and a selection of skillets.
For lunch or diner one might try the chicken strip dinner, baked meatloaf, gyro plate, or any number of salad and sandwich choices. The friendly staff and large dining area made for a comfortable in-person experience, though carryout is also available.
Lucas’ Coney Island is located at 2010 N. Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills. Check them out online at https://lucasauburnhills.com
