Video: Blue Heron Hunts for Breakfast at Addison Oaks
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 1, 2022)
Leonard, MI – Addison Oaks County Park is home to many beautiful creatures, including the graceful long-legged, large-winged Great Blue Heron. On a recent hike there, Oakland County Times got video of one of these birds in action.
Addison Oaks has over 20 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and winter fat tire biking. There are boat and kayak rentals, disc golf, and a playground. Plus the historic Buhl Estate offers a picturesque setting for weddings, receptions, meetings and more.
In the pond near the estate is where we happened upon this Great Blue Heron hunting for breakfast. Below is a 52-second video of the bird stalking it’s prey before successfully snapping it in it’s long beak and swallowing it whole.
