Police in Six Cities Stepping Up Enforcement against Loud Cars on Woodward Ave

Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and Royal Oak, MI – Police departments along Woodward Avenue in Oakland County have begun a rigorous noise enforcement campaign on and around the Woodward Avenue Corridor.
Residents within earshot of Woodward Avenue continue to deal with the loud noise created by traffic and loud vehicle exhaust systems. The noise has become increasingly annoying and disruptive with the onset of warm weather.
We want the residents and visitors of our communities to know we have heard the calls for action, and today we announce the commencement of Operation Decrescendo.
Operation Decrescendo is a collaborative effort by Berkley Public Safety, Birmingham Police, Bloomfield Hills Public Safety, Huntington Woods Public Safety, Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Pleasant Ridge Police, and Royal Oak Police to calm the noise along Woodward caused by traffic and loud exhausts.
Police and Public Safety Officers along Woodward are being directed to rigorously enforce loud exhausts and hazardous driving (reckless, drag racing, etc.), as well as minor traffic violations on Woodward throughout their tours of duty. Officers will be enforcing Michigan law MCL 257.707c which states the total noise from a motor vehicle shall not exceed 90 decibels upon a roadway of 35mph or greater. Operation Decrescendo will be in effect from now until September (with the exception of Dream Cruise on August 20, 2022).
