Reporter Food: Liberty Bar in Downtown Pontiac
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 3, 2022)
Pontiac, MI – Liberty Bar has been Downtown Pontiac’s gathering space for those in the LGBTQ+ community and allies for decades. In addition to a scene full of rainbow colored lights and trendy music, Liberty Bar has a menu with tasty options including their signature series of poutines.
The “Take That Chick-Filla” sandwich is a fried chicken sandwich with lettuce, pickles, tomato, gouda cheese, seasoned mayo and boom boom sauce on a toasted brioche bun. I had that while my friend had the Harlem Hanni with curly fries.
We also ordered the Central Pork poutine topped with pulled pork and bbq sauce. For an appetizer we had fried pb & J. For drinks my friend had a Last Sop Long Island made with Titos, Cointreau, Bacardi, Bombay Sapphire, 1800, sour and cola. For me it was a “Gurl Scout Shot” of Thin Mint.
Other poutine choices include the Bombay You Say, the Chelsea Morning, chicken and Waffles and more. Liberty also has salad, including the LGBTQ salad made with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. There’s also a menu section of “baskets” including cheese curds, curly fries, chips and salsa, and fried pickles.
Other specialty drinks include the Fiery Pumpkin ( Baileys Kahlua Bacardi 151 Cinnamon-Fire Finish), the Big Apple ( Vodka Apple Schnapps Cointreau ), and the Coney Island Fantasy ( Cotton Candy Raspberry Vodka Cranberry Juice Lemon Zest Simple Syrup ).
Liberty Bar is located at 85 N. Saginaw Street in Downtown Pontiac. Learn more at https://thelibertybar.com/.
