Accessible Kayak Launch at Independence Oaks Helps Adults Stay Active, Classes Available
(Oakland County Parks and Recreation, May 31, 2022)
Clarkston, MI – Whether an experienced kayaker or a novice, there is something for everyone at a series of Active Adult Kayak Clinics this summer.
Adults ages 50 and older can learn the basics of kayaking and how to use the Independence Oaks County Park accessible launch from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays: June 10, July 15, July 29 and Aug. 19. Time slots will be assigned once registration is complete.
“The kayak launch is a good option for everyone because it makes it easier to get in and out of the kayak,” Recreation Program Supervisor Sandy Dorey said. “Kayaking is an activity that helps increase upper body strength, build endurance and can boost your mood as you take in the beauty of the park and wildlife from a different perspective on the water.”
Cost is $10/person, which must be paid at time of registration. An Oakland County Parks and Recreation Annual Vehicle Permit or Daily Park Pass is required in addition to the program fee. Oakland County residents over age 62 or with permanent disabilities may be eligible for a free Annual Vehicle Permit. Purchase or apply for a permit at OaklandCountyParks.com.
Preregistration and payment must be made one week prior to each program. The registration form is available at OaklandCountyParks.com or call 248-221-8040 to register.
