Reporter Food: Shake Shack in Rochester Hills, Troy & Livonia

(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 28, 2022)

Rochester Hills, Troy, and Livonia, MI – There are burgers.  And there are burgers that make the corners of your mouth tingle when you remember their taste. Whatever they do at Shake Shack definitely makes theirs taste extra-indulgent.  The crispy caramelized edges, the un-apologetically processed melty American cheese, the hearty messy toppings. The Shake Shack burger was a delicious mess.

Along with the burger I had crispy crinkle cut french fries also topped with cheese.

To be honest I don’t remember what kind of shake I had, but I do know that it was good.  There are ever-changing selections, as well as the standard chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry kinds.  Cookies n cream is also a regular offering.  I also had lemonade, which is made onsite using real sugar.

Shake Shack is a chain, but with local investors operating stores and enough distance in between to make a visit feel special.  I went to the Rochester Hills location, though they’re also in Troy and Livonia.

In addition to burgers there are chicken bites, and chicken sandwiches, as well as a “flat-top dog” which is a Chicago Vienna Beef hot dog sliced lengthwise and grilled. Those not in the mood for a shake might enjoy frozen custard or a root beer float.
