Orion Township, MI – A favorite childhood sport was revived by adults from around SE Michigan on May 22 as teams played kickball to raise money for a concession stand at Miracle Field.
Once open, the Home Plate concession stand will service all field and park activities at Friendship Park. It will be the place where kids and families go to enjoy food, refreshments, and friendship. Easterseals will be employing former Miracle League players and volunteers to operate the stand. All proceeds from concession sales will support the Miracle League Field and its mission to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play Miracle League baseball regardless of their abilities.
Teams included Orion Township, Rochester Hills, Oxford, Macomb, Bloomfield Township, and SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments).
Former Detroit Lion Lomas Brown was on hand for the tournament, telling ONTV he hoped the players remembered to stretch before playing. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and soccer star Allison Vizanke were also part of the festivities.
In the tournament Orion beat Oxford in the first round. By the end it was down to teams from Bloomfield Township and Rochester Hills, with Rochester Hills kicking out a win and donating their prize money back to the Home Plate efforts. The SEMCOG team won for most spirit, and Vizanke was named MVP.
