Royal Oak, MI – Southern Sea Otters are among the animals in the Arctic Ring of Life at the Detroit Zoo. During a recent visit we were able to catch these endangered creatures playing and enjoying the day, including one that took some time for grooming and for flipping. Check out this adorable video:
According to the Detroit Zoological Society’s website, “The Arctic Ring of Life is home to two Southern sea otters. Female Ollie was found stranded in Santa Cruz, California in 2010 when she was approximately two weeks old. At one day old, male Monte was found stranded on a beach in Santa Cruz, California in 2020. Both otters were determined to be non-releasable by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Ollie and Monte moved together to the Detroit Zoo in June 2021.”
