Oak Park Woman Dead After Being Struck by Two Vehicles

On Tuesday, April 19 at approximately 9:10 pm, Oak Park Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the area of Coolidge and Burton on the report of a female who was struck by a motor vehicle. The vehicle in question is reported to be a red SUV that had fled the scene; no additional information is available regarding the driver of the vehicle.
Upon arrival at the scene, Officers observed a 59-year-old female, resident of Oak Park, lying on the roadway. The female was conscious and alert with a laceration to the rear of her head; she did complain she was having trouble breathing. Officers immediately began to provide medical care for the victim until Alliance Ambulance arrived on scene.
At the scene, the woman was accompanied by her sister-in-law who informed Officers she and the 59- year-old woman were crossing the roadway westbound at the crosswalk (near 24661 Coolidge) when a red SUV traveling southbound disregarded the red light and struck the victim, knocking her to the ground. The driver of the suspected vehicle proceeded to drive over the victim and continued southbound on Coolidge, without stopping.
Moments later the victim was then struck a black SUV, which was also traveling southbound on Coolidge. The driver of the black SUV also did not stop. From the scene of the incident, the victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital by Alliance Ambulance at approximately 11 pm, the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office contacted the Oak Park Public Safety Department stating that the victim had succumbed to her injuries.
Additionally, later in the evening the Oak Park Police Department received information that the victim’s sister-in-law had also been struck by the red SUV at the original time of the incident but did not mention it to officers upon their initial arrival due the trauma she suffered from the incident. The Oak Park Detective Bureau actively investigating this incident.
