Pontiac Man and Family Members Arrested in 2018 Murder
(OCSO, April 11, 2022)
Pontiac, MI – A Pontiac man, his brother and his mother are in custody and named in warrants linking them to a 2018 slaying. Angel Jose Alvarez, 22; his brother Juan Diego Hernandez, 27; and their mother, Guadalupe Maria Davila-Rodriguez, 46, are expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Pontiac’s 50th District Court in the June 7, 2018 slaying of 20-year-old Emilio Valdez.
The trio were arrested Friday – Hernandez in Walled Lake and Alvarez and Davila-Rodriguez in Pontiac.
“I am proud of our deputies who constantly dig for more information and look for ways to not only solve crimes but to bring perpetrators to justice,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We look forward to those involved in this homicide being held accountable.”
Alvarez is charged with open murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. His mother and brother are each charged with being accessories after the fact to open murder – 5- year felonies. They are being held in the Oakland County Jail.
The incident happened June 7, 2018. Two young men had gone to Osmun Lake to fish when they discovered a broken vehicle head light, a blood-soaked shirt, blood near a dock and blood on the dock. Their discovery was reported to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Dive Team responded and found the victim’s body in the lake.
An autopsy revealed that Valdez was alive while in the lake but also had two gunshot wounds to the chest area.
On June 7, the victim’s sister told Detectives she saw her brother get into a black Pontiac Grand Prix earlier that day. She heard several gunshots and the car sped away. She tried to reach her brother later but was unsuccessful.
Deputies were notified the same day that a black Grand Prix had been stolen. What wasn’t reported to Deputies at the time was that Alvarez – the son of the complainant – was driving the car. The car was discovered in Sylvan Lake and recovered by Waterford Township police. A spent shell casing, blood and the victim’s cell phone were found in the vehicle. Alvarez was questioned at the time but denied any knowledge of the slaying. Detectives do not believe the slaying was random. They were able to uncover additional information recently which led to the charges.
