Reporter Food: The Fly Trap in Downtown Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 9, 2022)
Ferndale, MI – The Fly Trap is back!
This popular Downtown Ferndale restaurant had closed during the pandemic, and was recently purchased and re-opened by Matthew Buskard who also owns Bobcat Bonnie’s restaurant.
Nothing has changed from before. There’s still the bright eclectic decor. Still the same menu of interesting items. And still the unique name.
Though I have written about The Fly Trap before, a friend and I went to support the re-opening.
For this visit I had the Crab Cakes and Eggs, which came served with a green chili tartar sauce. I opted for the sour dough toast. My friend had the Veggie Rumble with Tofu – a delightful hash of red pepper, carrots, mushrooms, peas, spinach and provolone. Both came served with diced potatoes. Everything was well-prepared and delicious!
The Fly Trap has both savory and sweet options. In the “Oh, Sugar Shack!” section of the menu one can find goodies like Gingerbread Waffles, Granola, Oatmeal, and Muffins. Other breakfast items include the Red Flannel Hash, the Slacker Especial, and Huevos Rancheros.
Those leaning towards lunch might enjoy The Cheapsteak (flanksteak on grilled sourdough with Swiss Cheese, balsamic onions, spinach, tomato, and grainy mustard), the Red Chili Salmon Burger (with shaved cucumber and ginger lime aioli), or Howie’s Noodles (shrimp, fettuccine, Cajun cream, tomatoes, scallion and parmsean).
The menu is full of other interesting items, which can be found online at www.theflytrapferndale.com. The Fly Trap is located at 22950 Woodward Avenue in Downtown Ferndale, and is open for breakfast and lunch, closing at 3pm.
