Reporter Food: Country Boy in Hazel Park

(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 3, 2022)

Hazel Park, MI – Although their old sign featuring a smiling child in a straw hat and overalls was destroyed in a storm, Country Boy Restaurant  in Hazel Park remains a community icon, having served up inexpensive home-cooked-style meals for decades.

A friend and I met for lunch there recently, though he opted for a breakfast favorite – the Super Special.  This was a carnivore’s feast, featuring two eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and biscuits and gravy.  There were rave reviews from his end of the table.

I had the veal cutlet sandwich, fried crispy and served on white bread with lettuce, tomato and pickle.  Plus I got a side of chili cheese fries.

Country Boy has a variety of items, including country fried steak, hot turkey sandwiches, jumbo shrimp, burgers, fried chicken and breakfast served anytime. There is no website for this old school style diner, but you can stop in at 821 E. 9 Mile Road for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
