Reporter Food: Whistle Stop Diner in Pleasant Ridge
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 24, 2022)
Pleasant Ridge, MI – Whistle Stop Diner is a Pleasant Ridge favorite. Located at 24060 Woodward Ave, this quaint restaurant with bright decor and beautiful windows that show the buzz of the traffic outside, offers up breakfast and lunch possibilities.
I recently joined a friend for brunch there. He started with a mug of locally roasted Great Lakes Coffee while I sipped hot chocolate with whipped cream on top.
The breakfast burger was a perfect creation to satisfy both lunch and breakfast cravings. It came topped with a fried egg, melted cheese, lettuce and onion on a toasted English muffin – served with a side of hash browns.
My friend opted for the a half order of apple/blueberry pancakes, which I’m told were delicious.
For the breakfast crowd there’s also French Toast, other types of pancakes, and a nice selection of omelettes and scrambles. The Kurtzy, for example, has red bell pepper, spinach, bacon, and goat cheese. Eggs Benedict are also a popular choice, with options that include the Beverly Hillbilly (with Southern fried chicken topped with sausage gravy, cheddar, and hot sauce) and the Sunny Sunrise (made with potato latkes, sliced bacon, and Hollandaise sauce).
For lunch one might enjoy a homemade butter burger or one of their delicious sandwiches such as the Tuna Melt or House Favorite BLT. There’s also a J.L. Hudson’s Maurice Salad that is popular.
According to their website, Whistle Stop uses “every effort to use local products and vendors whenever possible & reasonable.” It thanks visitors “for supporting us and your local economy by choosing to spend your money in and for Michigan!” Learn more at the Whistle Stop Diner website.
