Ferndale Superintendent Dr. Bazzi Accepts West Bloomfield Superintendent Position
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 23, 2022)
West Bloomfield, MI – Dr. Dania Bazzi has accepted an offer to be Superintendent of West Bloomfield School District. She will stay with Ferndale Schools through the end of this school year.
Bazzi has been an active part of the Ferndale Schools family for five years. She was selected as the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators 2022 Michigan Superintendent of the Year.
WBSD released a statement saying “In late December 2021 and early January 2022, the WBSD Board of Education surveyed stakeholders to help determine the Superintendent candidate profile. Once determined, the candidate profile became part of the posting for the Superintendent position.
The Board conducted first-round interviews with three candidates on February 28 and March 1. At the conclusion of first-round interviews, the Board narrowed the search down to two candidates. After the board narrowed it down to two candidates, one candidate removed himself from consideration. After consultation with Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI), the Board determined to continue the process with the remaining candidate, Dr. Dania Bazzi. On March 9, Dr. Bazzi met with several stakeholder groups and completed a second-round interview. Dr. Bazzi hosted WBSD board members at her current District on March 15 for a site visit.
The Board of Education is grateful that they were able to obtain feedback from WBSD stakeholders following both interviews and from each of the stakeholder meetings. “We would like to thank our wonderful students, staff, families, and the community for engaging in this important process with us,” stated Stacy Brickman, Board of Education President.
The Board of Education in conjunction with MLI is entering into contract negotiations with Dr. Bazzi. Once negotiations are complete, we will keep the community informed.”
Ferndale School Board President Sandra Dukhie shared a statement with parents.
“On behalf of the entire Board of Education and Ferndale Schools Community, I want to thank Dr. Bazzi for her outstanding leadership of our school family for the past five years. During Dr. Bazzi’s tenure as Superintendent, Ferndale Schools has become a nationally recognized school district for the collective work she has led in concert with our community and Board of Education. We all wish her well in her next endeavor,”
Dukhie said the board is “researching and reviewing search firms who will assist us in identifying an outstanding pool of candidates.”
“While we are losing an outstanding leader in Dr. Bazzi I want to assure our community that the Board of Education will not settle in our search to find our next leader,” she said. “Selecting a Superintendent is the most important job of the Board of Education and we do not take this responsibility lightly.”
Ferndale Schools will keep the community updated on their website and through emails about the process.
