Reporter Food: Oak Diner in Royal Oak
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 15, 2022)
Royal Oak, MI- A frequent suggestion that I’ve finally been able to try is Oak Diner in Royal Oak. This tiny little diner on Campbell just south of 12 Mile is often packed, and they’re only open for breakfast and lunch. But I was able to get a recent carryout, and it was delicious.
I had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which is thick cut ham and flaky chunks of turkey with Swiss cheese on French Toast that is dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of maple syrup. I also had the bomb fries, topped with chili, bacon, jalepenos, and sour cream.
Other sandwich creations include the Chicken Club, Tuna Melt, Crispy Chicken Breast and the Confusion, which is 1/2 lb of corned beef, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and deli sauce on grilled marbled rye. There are also burgers, wraps, and pitas. For breakfast there are traditional options like skillets, omelettes, pancakes and French toast. There are also favorites like the corned beef hash, chicken n’ waffle, and biscuits and gravy.
Oak Diner is located at 1400 N. Campbell Road in Royal Oak. They don’t have a website, but their Facebook page does have photos of their menu.
