Reporter Food: Italia Gardens in Oxford
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 4, 2022)
Oxford, Davison MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County led me to Italia Gardens in Oxford for a delicious carryout meal of grilled salmon (and the largest dinner roll I’ve ever seen). The fish was perfectly cooked, tasty, thick, and flaky, swimming in the oil of capers and artichokes. It came with roasted redskin potatoes, broccoli, and a small salad. And of course that ginormous roll!
I loved the toasted almond cream cake for desert. Other choices include cheesecake and cannoli.
Italia has a “simply pasta” section of the menu, where one can choose between mostaccioli or spaghetti, and then select from a menu of sauces including tomato, marinara, palomino, Gorgonzola, diavolo, meat, and Alfredo. Then toppings, like broccoli, chicken, and meatballs, can be added.
Wood-fired brick oven pizza can be ordered in a similar way by selecting from topping choices. Other dinner choices include chicken tetrazzini, St. Louis style ribs, and steaks.
According to their website, This family business has been delighting hungry customers since 1931 when Albert and Josephine Barone opened the first Italian restaurant in the city of Flint. When the Barones retired in 1964 their daughter Enza and her husband Don Haley took over, opening a second location in Davison, and now the current location in Oxford, open since 2008.
Italia Gardens is located at 1076 S. Lapeer Road in Oxford. Learn more at https://www.italiagardensoxford.com.
