Ferndale School Board Extends Face Mask Requirement
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 1, 2022)
Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak Township, Oak Park, MI – Ferndale Public Schools Board of Education voted Monday evening to extend face mask requirements for students, staff, and visitors in spite of requirements being lifted by the state and county.
The vote was passed 4-3 with President Sandra Dukhie, Vice President Jennifer LaTosch and Trustees Mike Davisson and Jonathan Turner voting yes and Treasurer Anna Ibrahim, Secretary Jackie Hart and Trustee Sarah Elturk voting no.
Ferndale Superintendent Dania Bazzi sent a message to parents stating “At this evening’s meeting the Ferndale Schools Board of Education voted to extend the mask mandate.
“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts on this important issue. This continuation allows us to take a more cautious approach and monitor the data in the coming weeks to see if there is an increase in Covid cases locally.
“The topic of masking will be revisited at next month’s Board of Education meeting on March 21st, 2022. If case counts within Oakland County continue to drop or stay stagnant it is likely that the mandate would be lifted at that time.
“I know that many are passionate on both sides of this issue. Our top priority continues to be the safety and well being of our students. I urge everyone to continue to be respectful of each other.”
