Royal Oak Names Michael Moore to Police Chief Position

Royal Oak, MI – The City of Royal Oak today announces the appointment of Interim Police Chief Michael Moore to the Chief of Police for the Royal Oak Police Department. Chief Moore will be sworn-in as the City’s 20th police chief during a ceremony on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
As Police Chief, Moore is responsible for the administration and overall management of the Police Department and will oversee the two main divisions of the department: staff services and patrol operations. Chief Moore has been employed by the Royal Oak Police Department for more than 20 years.
“Police Chief Moore has immeasurable experience and knowledge about the Royal Oak Police Department and this community, and we are thrilled to welcome him into this position,” said Paul Brake, City Manager for Royal Oak. “I believe that Chief Moore is the right person to lead and inspire our department personnel and align our organization with principles of best practices in policing.”
During his tenure with the Royal Oak Police Department Moore has held the rank of Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Commander of the Professional Standards Unit, and Deputy Chief of both staff and service operations.
“The Royal Oak Police Department has been my home for the last 22 years, and I am honored to work with and lead this incredible group of individuals who are committed to the Royal Oak community,” said Police Chief Moore.
Chief Moore is actively involved in the recruitment and hiring of new police officers and created a cadet program that employs students seeking a career in law enforcement on a part-time basis. Three former cadets of the program have attended the police academy and are now police officers at the Royal Oak Police Department.
He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Criminology. Additionally, he is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University’s School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program.
