VIDEO: Oxford/Orion’s FISH Pantry Seeks Support as Needs Increase

(Orion Neighborhood Television, Feb. 21, 2022)

Lake Orion, Oxford, Oakland Township, Addison Township, MI – FISH is a food pantry that serves the Lake Orion/Oxford Area.  Orion Neighborhood Television recently featured FISH in a video that shows the scope of their service and talks about the needs they have.

Host Joseph Johnson points out that the group served 187 families per month in 2019, gifting over 200,000 lbs of food.

FISH Board President Michelle Behm talked about how things changed through the pandemic, and how partnering with Gleaners helped them increase capacity. They’ve switched back from drive-through service to in-person visits with safety protocols in place, and they’re seeing even more people coming to be served. They’ve even added more hours.

Sue Hackstock is the Vice President of the FISH Board.  “Our main concern,” she said, “especially with the kids – we want to make sure the kids are well taken care of. We don’t’ want any child going to school being hungry or not having anything.”

The pantry seeks food donations, as well as volunteers and financial support.  Behm stressed that through partnerships with businesses they can “stretch that dollar further” with the ability to buy in bulk.
