(Milford Police, Feb. 9, 2022)
MILFORD, MI – Approximately 11:30am today’s date, the Milford Police Department and the Milford Fire Department responded to the area of Old Plank Rd at the railroad crossing. This location is just inside the Village of Milford. The response was the result of multiple 911 calls reporting a train and vehicle had collided at the crossing.
Preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle traveling northbound Old Plank failed to stop for the south/east bound train. There was a single occupant of the vehicle who sustained life threatening injuries because of the collision. Milford Fire personnel attempted life saving measures before the victim was transported to Ascension Providence Hospital Novi Campus. At the hospital, the 64yr old female, a Milford Township resident was pronounced dead by an attending physician.
Milford Police accident investigators will be assisted by the Michigan State Police Accident reconstruction unit throughout the course of the investigation. Preliminarily there is no indication that the crossing signals malfunctioned or were not working properly.
“We ask travelers of the Milord community to have patience as this train is currently blocking all crossings throughout our community”, stated Milford Police Chief, Thomas C. Lindberg. “Temporary detours are in place and all businesses will remain open and accessible to residents and guests”.
The Milford Police Department reminds drivers to use extreme caution at all railroad crossings. Vehicles can stop at crossings, trains cannot.
Anyone that may have been in the area or witnessed the accident is asked to call the Milford Police Department at (248) 684-1815.
