Explore: Wintertime Stroll in Downtown South Lyon

South Lyon, MI – South Lyon is a town full of interesting features, even on a chilly day. While there weren’t many people out and about for my wintertime stroll, the character of the community shone through in the historic buildings, patriotic features, and thoughtful areas to shop, dine, and play.

McHattie Park has so much to keep little ones occupied, including a playground with educational features, a swinging platform for wheelchair users, and a small sledding hill. Bright orange features provide great obstacles, with a large goldfish standing out best of all.

Kids and adults might enjoy a visit to the “Witch’s Hat” Depot Museum, which features a classic train car as well as a depot full of history. Inside you’ll find an old fashioned telephone, a display of a seamstress’s shop, a collection of typewriters, artwork and historical pictures, household items from generations past, and more.

There’s also a Victorian Gazebo, a Freight House, and a Memorial for Veterans with flags, a dedicated rock, and homages to each branch of the military.

In the core shopping district there are a variety of shops and restaurants. For yummy foods visit South Lyon Hotel, Lake Street Tavern, Corner Social, Witches Hat Brewing, and The Village Baker. And for shopping some great choices include The Lyon’s Den Bookstore, The Coral Sash, Grand Trunke Home, and South Lyon Cycle.
