VIDEO: Fresh Snow Gives Perfect Time to Find Rat Paths

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 25, 2022)

Oakland County, MI- For some a fresh layer of snow means a picturesque winter scene. For others it triggers angst about driving and shoveling.  But for Laura Mikuski and members of the Ferndale Rat Patrol, a fresh layer of white means time to look for rat paths.

On these special wintry days, rats give away their hideouts and their paths to regular food sources.  Once simply has too look for the signs:  paw prints and tail prints, paths, and poop.

Knowing where the rats are and where they go is one step in the process to reduce their population.  Ferndale Rat Patrol has a wealth of information about how to tackle the problems caused by rats, including ways to kill them.  Left unchecked, rat populations can easily impact a community.  Mikulski, who is also a City Councilperson, started Ferndale Rat Patrol before her position on council along with other neighbors determined to use data-driven methods and a variety of tested approaches to stopping them and their tracks.

Below is the most recent video by Mikulski, showing viewers what to look for in identifying a rat trail.
