Fire and Ice Bring Spark To Wintry Night in Downtown Holly

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 17, 2022)

Holly, MI – Under the glow of lights strung across Battle Alley, Downtown Holly celebrated a wintry night with the warmth of a First Friday festival with a Fire and Ice theme.  The main attraction was a live ice carving demonstration where visitors watched a block of ice be transformed into a train.

The shops throughout the historic district had windows decorated for wintertime and Valentine’s Day, and a chili cookoff gave people a chance to visit local restaurants like Andy’s Place, Holly Cafe, and The Holly Hotel. Fire pits gave folks a chance to thaw their hands, and meet others who came out for a bit of community warmth.

“Had over 100 participate in the Chili Cook Off,” said Downtown Development Authority Director Nick Klempp.  “The event went really well for being a first time event!

“We had lots of people come down and participate in the movie filming in Battle Alley, buy the fresh roasted almonds, watch Finesse Ice with their live ice carving of the train and see the Holy Vault ring design and RHL Group’s Lion design and participate in the chili cook off.

“It was cold but a lot of fun and something that we will do again next year and hopefully get more ice sculptures and chili cook off participants!”
