Thoughtful Threads in Holly Collecting Purses for Domestic Violence Victims

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 6, 2022)

Holly, MI – When women escape from abuse and violence, often it’s with little or nothing in the way of possessions.  That’s why Thoughtful Threads Boutique in Holly is collecting new and gently used purses for a drive by the Michigan State Police.

“Earlier this year, Michigan State Police in Flint started collecting filled purses that would benefit women who were escaping domestic violence. They did this back in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness month. It is an ongoing program and another local community advocate, Heather Lyon Melton, spearheaded the purse drive here in Holly,” said Thoughtful Threads owner Kristin Koppa-Watt.

“As a local community advocate myself and now a business owner, I am in a unique position at Thoughtful Threads, to kick off the New Year accepting gently used purse donations!

“We will take all the donations received at the end of February and then collaborate with Heather and local community action network, Holly ACTS to do a spring drive for feminine hygiene products, phone cards, and basic toiletries, such as toothbrushes, deodorant, new underwear, and more to fill the purses.

“Heather will coordinate delivery to MSP in Flint in April. At Thoughtful Threads, our mission is to “think outside the shop” and it is part of our mission to not only support various female owned businesses but to give back and help uplift the women and children in our community and surrounding communities.

Thoughtful Threads also donates 10% of store profits to a local charity, which currently is Blessings in a Backpack.

Thoughtful Threads is located at 1006 N. Saginaw Street, Suite C, in Holly.
