Reporter Food: Jalapenos Restaurant in Clarkston and Pontiac

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 28, 2021)
Clarkston, Pontiac, MI- Locally-owned Mexican restaurant Jalapenos has locations on Baldwin Road in Pontiac and on Sashabaw Road in Clarkston.
Earlier this year (before the snow) I enjoyed a takeout meal from the Clarkston location. I had the nice, big, filling California Burrito – a 12″ flour tortilla filled with carne asada, rice and beans. Served with pico de gallo, sour cream guacamole and melted cheese.
And I had the flautas, which I’d never had before and was very impressed with. Those were three corn tortillas filled with chicken, deep-fried and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, queso fresco, sour cream and avocado. There are many other choices including tostadas, quesadillas, tacos, gorditas and more.
Among the more interesting items are the Chilie Relleno (Poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, covered with our house red salsa and served with your choice of corn or flour tortillas), and the torta (Mexican bread stuffed with your choice of meat, avocados, jalapeños, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo and sour cream).
According to their website, Jalapenos was first opened in 1997 by Jorge and Laura, offering “authentic traditional family home made recipes staying true to their authentic Mexican roots.”
