Khalfani Stephens to Be Nominated for Pontiac Deputy Mayor

Pontiac, MI – Mayor-Elect Tim Greimel has announced he will nominate Pontiac native Khalfani Stephens to be the city’s next Deputy Mayor.
Stephens is a seasoned government official with more than 15 years of municipal experience. He has most recently served as Economic Development Director for the city of Flint and previously oversaw the city of Pontiac’s community and economic development office.
“I’m excited to announce Khalfani Stephens as my choice for Deputy Mayor,” said Mayor-Elect Tim Greimel. “Khalfani has an accomplished track record as a leader in municipal, county, and state-wide agencies. He will bring a wealth of experience as we work toward having a collaborative and effective government. Equally important, Khalfani was born and raised in Pontiac and knows well the challenges and opportunities we face. He will be a great leader in our office for residents.”
As Deputy Mayor, Stephens will act as the city’s Chief Administrative Officer, overseeing day-to-day operations, and providing leadership on all city functions including the budget, policies, and services of the city. The Deputy Mayor is appointed by the Mayor, pending confirmation by City Council.

Prior to his service in Flint, Stephens served as Executive Director of the Development Authority for Clayton County, where he redesigned and relaunched an economic development agency in metropolitan Atlanta. He has also served as Economic Development Director in the city of Farmington Hills and served as Business Development Manager for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
In addition to his work in municipal management, Stephens is dedicated to serving the community as a whole, including the support of numerous boards and commissions. He is currently the Vice President of the Michigan Economic Developers Association, Chair of the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, an active member of the Pontiac Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Vice President of the Pontiac Kappa Foundation.
Stephens holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan and Masters of Business Administration and Economic Development Certificate from Wayne State University. He is also a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) and Michigan Master Citizen Planner.
